VIDEO Search Engine Optimization Organic Case Study

February 23, 2020

by John Hawley

There is a general belief that Organic SEO is dead and especially for businesses with sizeable marketing budgets it's a notion easily accepted as Google AdSense/Ad Words program clearly provides benefits for those that can afford it. Yet, the processes for ranking organically are bundled into the same best practices for getting the most bang for your buck with AdSense/Ad Words program.

This is a case study in organic search associated with an ongoing video production series for Jacksonville Garden Center Earth Works.

This video features Rhonda Brooks King & David discussing Fiddle Leaf Fig, Gazania, Golf Beauty, Lime Sizzler Firebush, New Guinea Impatiens & Shell Ginger.

-For Google video search term: "Fiddle leaf fig Jacksonville" results were #2, #3 & #4 in Search Engine Results Pages (SERP). 💪😎
-For Google video search term: "Gazania Jacksonville" results were #1, #2 & #4 in Search Engine Results Pages (SERP). 💪😎
-For Google video search term: "Golf Beauty Jacksonville"...we have a problem Houston. We have so many golf courses in Jacksonville that the common plant name is insufficient to rank us in the SERP for video. Thus, I've gone back and tweaked the plant descriptions by adding the genus & species and can recheck in a week for improved ranking related to addition.
-For Google video search term: "Lime Sizzler Jacksonville" results were #4, #5 & #6, but for Lime Sizzler Firebush Jacksonville we are lower at #6 & #7 as I did not initially include "firebush" in my video description. I've gone back and added that to improve the rankings.
-For Google video search term: "New guinea impatiens Jacksonville" results were #6, #7 & #9, but will hopefully benefit from the addition of the genus & species "Impatiens hawkeri" and more details on each of the varieties for this video as the lead video for this search query is from 2013.
--For Google video search term: "shell ginger Jacksonville" results were #12, #13 & #19 and behind even a club I was a member of the Jacksonville Shell Club. This low ranking from the second page of the SERP is due to not including enough details such as "variegated", the genus & species along with more of a description of the plant. I've returned to the video description and updated it as:
