How do athletes competing in open and masters at the same show place higher for instance in masters than other competitors who beat them same day in the open?

Example: Karina Constantino of Mexico was 1st in the St Louis Pro Bikini Masters and 5th in the Open with Michelle Hurst placing 2nd to her in the Masters but 3rd in the open.

Tough competition in IFBB St Louis Pro 2018 Women's Physique as three ladies tied for first place out of fourteen. When it was all said and done Marjorie Beck of Brazil took the top spot with Katie Lee of Germantown, Maryland taking second and Sarah Fechter of Saginaw, Michigan taking the third spot. Majorie was originally on the Arnold Columbus invite list and went on to take second at the Atlantic Coast Championships with this being her first win out of the five Women's Physique IFBB Pro League events of 2018. Way to go ladies!
