Sports Agent Arrested for Human Trafficking
Marc Anthony's Magnus Sports Agent Bart Hernandez has had a rich history before Magnus Sports of being one of the leading agents to facilitate the path of great baseball players from Cuba to the U.S. under the embrargo and immigration restrictions. Charged in Miami court Friday, Feb. 19, 2016 Hernandez faces 20 years in prison if convicted of the human trafficking charges that involve detention and extortion of athletes and others from Cuba in association with Mexican Drug Cartel Los Zetas.
The specific charges involve Leonys Martin of the Seattle Mariners and Martin's claim he was held in Cancun by Los Zetas until he would agree to pay Hernandez and his conspirators millions of dollars over the life of his career in baseball. This pattern of predatory practice has been rumored about for decades and interestingly involving more arrests and recognition as U.S. and Cuban relations warm and travel restrictions reduced between the two countries.
Marc Anthony's Agency is in its infancy and has not been implicated.
