Hurricane & Typhoon Bay Blowing In This Weekend

Sept. 14, 2007

John Hawley

This weekend’s big area bodybuilding event is the Hurricane & Typhoon Bay Bodybuilding, Fitness, and Figure Championships on September 15, 2007. This is a Level IV-A NPC sanctioned show to be held in Tampa, Florida at the Gaither High School Auditorium. Tim Gardner, an NPC judge, former owner of Southern Muscle Plus, gym owner, personal trainer, and nutritionist for the over 500 members of Team Body Tech (www.TeamBodyTech.com) is ALSO promoter for this show.

Tim Gardner is an interesting story all to himself, which we will save for another time, but suffice to say that he rallies a lot of competitors as a first rate trainer, judge, and promoter with over a 100 competitors showing up each year to compete in this very popular event. IFBB Pro Bodybuilder Marcus Haley, a member of Team Body Tech will be one of the guest posers at the Hurricane & Typhoon Bay Show. Only a few weeks out from the Olympia contest that Marcus Haley is training for means the anticipation will be high to see how close he might come in his first year competing for the grandest title in professional bodybuilding. Marcus Haley has an awesome stage presence and performance as was evident when he took the stage at the Dexter Jackson Classic in Jacksonville a little more than a month ago. For free sample video clips visit my website at http://musclepaparazzi.org/videos/DexterJacksonClassic2007.html.

I’ll be at the show and would encourage everyone else to attend. For more information on the Hurricane and Typhoon Bay Show visit Hurricanebay.net or call Tim direct at 813-908-7763.

In other bodybuilding, fitness, and figure news last week Matt & Beverly DiRenzo did a terrific job as promoters of the Gulf Coast Championships in Ft. Myers on Sept. 8. The Men’s Overall Winner was Dominic Dagostino from the heavyweight division. Michael Avery took second in the heavyweights. Rankings in the other divisions included for Light Heavyweight 1. Kenneth Baker, 2. Brian Elliott, and third went to Richie Renner. In the Middleweights First went to Mark Rosmini, 2. Bill Saunders, 3. Mark Simpson, and forth to Danny Patrick. In the Lightweight division first went to Pine Pienaar, 2. Omar Serano. In Masters 35+ first went to Michael Joffe and second to Carlos Dimas.

The Women’s Overall Winner was Mandy Selby from the Middleweight bodybuilding division. Lightweight winners were first place Joann Andrews and second when to Shawn Hohenthaner.
In Figure the overall winner was Eleonora Gusevski. 2. Kelly Maki, 3. Suzette Henderson,
4. Erika Wallace, 5. Summer Barnes, 6. Deanna Strausbaugh, 7. Shawn Hohenthaner, and eighth place went to Erin Cicen.

The NPC judging staff was thoughtful and assisted athletes that had scoring questions. There was terrific seminar between prejudging and the night show and retired Tampa Bay Buccaneer turned IFBB Pro bodybuilder Nathan Wonsley wowed the crowd with his performance.

You can find out more about the event at the official website for it at www.gulfcoastchampionships.com where there are links to the photo galleries on www.MuscularDevelopment.com and Ian Ware’s www.Iajephoto.com. Plus, I took the comprehensive video footage of the show where it is made available along with other area shows at http://musclepaparazzi.org/videos.html.

Don’t forget to make the Hurricane & Typhoon Bay Bodybuilding, Fitness, and Figure Championships on September 15, 2007 with prejudging at 9:00am and the evening show at beginning at 6:00pm. See you there and until next time,…STAY PUMPED!
